Salient Research Achievements/works

  1. Constructed a preliminary RFLP linkage map of Brassica juncea.
  2. Identified molecular markers linked with seed coat color in Brassica.
  3. Identified isozyme variation in regenerated plantlets of oil palm.
  4. Constructed a partial genomic library of coconut.
  5. Established genetic relationship among selected coconut accessions based on RAPD markers.
  6. Estimated within and between population variations in coconut accessions.
  7. Established genetic relationship among grape rootstocks based on SSR and AFLP data.
  8. Identified promising SSR and AFLP markers associated with downy mildew resistance in grape.

Important seminar/conference participated in

1.      International seminar on sugarcane genomics and genetic transformation’ organized by Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune on 28-29th August 2003.

2.      Workshop on ‘Agriculture Bioinformatics’ at Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut on 29-30th November 2003 and delivered a lecture on ‘Bioinformatics in Genomics’.

3.      A discussion meeting on ‘Molecular breeding’ convened by Dy. Director General (Hort.), ICAR at NRC for DNA Fingerprinting, New Delhi on 4th September 2003.

4.      ‘Biotech Summit 2003’ organized by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce held at Pune on 16-17th May 2003.

5.      Brainstorming session on post-harvest biotechnology for improved shelf life of horticultural crops held at Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi on 29th November 2001 and presented a paper entitled ‘Post-harvest biotechnology in grapes : Status and Prospects’.

6.      International conference on Science and Technology for Managing Plant Genetic Diversity in the 21st Century” held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 12-16 June, 2000, organized by IPGRI and MPOB.

7.      National Seminar on recent advances in plant biology - An inter-disciplinary approach to unravel plant functions”, held at CPCRI, Kasaragod, Kerala, 3-5 February 2000.

8.      National symposium on commercial aspects of plant tissue culture, Molecular biology and medicinal plant biotechnology, held at Faculty of Science, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. 25-27 Feb 1998.

9.      International coconut embryo culture and acclimatization workshop held at Albay Research Centre, Philippines, 27-31 Oct. 1997.
